About the White Turf
The White Turf is a unique and exclusive event with various disciplines of racing all taking place in the wonderful winter sunshine, on the frozen lake, among the stunning scenery of the snow-capped mountains of St Moritz. As well as racing, there are delicious food stands, lively music, and a number of exhibition stands for you to browse.
This is a spectacular way to enjoy a glass of Champagne on ice and watch some exciting, hair-raising action from horses and jockeys from all over Europe.
A truly luxurious break for those who enjoy the finer things in life and don’t mind the cold. Come February, there is nowhere better to be than in the magnificent and romantic Alpine surroundings. An experience you will never forget and a must to tick off the list.
This first White Turf race day opens the iconic winter season on the frozen Lake St. Moritz. Expect a full programme of international horse racing disciplines—including fast-paced gallop races, strategic trotting contests, and the world-renowned alpine spectacle of skikjöring (where skiers are pulled at speed behind horses across the ice). Amidst stunning mountain scenery, guests can also enjoy betting, gourmet catering, live music and social festivities in the lakeside tent city, making this day both a sporting and cultural highlight of the winter calendar.
The second race Sunday of White Turf continues the celebration of elite equestrian sport on snow. Alongside thrilling flat and trotting races, skikjöring remains a key attraction, drawing crowds with its unique blend of speed and spectacle. The atmosphere is typically lively and cosmopolitan, combining top-class competition with the social buzz of spectators from around the world. Classic Swiss winter hospitality—from fine food to après-race gatherings—adds to the experience.
The third and final White Turf race day brings the series to a climactic close. It’s often when the top performers across all disciplines emerge and when the overall excitement and competitive drama peak. Races on the frozen lake continue throughout the afternoon, creating dramatic finishes against the backdrop of snow-capped Alps. As with other Sundays, the event blends sport, style and tradition, inviting both racing enthusiasts and seasonal travellers to savour an unforgettable day on the ice.
